my overall goal is to have a webpage from my computer that can be accessed over the internet. I have installed apache and i've gotten it to work, the only problem i have is that i don't have a fixed ip adress so if i told someone to acces my computer through ip adress then eventually it will change. I have been told there is software that gets around this problem but i don't know what the sotware is and if i got the software how would i go about setting up a domain name?

Flynn - it would be much better if you got a hosting service - there are free ones out there.

Why? because if you read the ToS of your ISP agreement, you will find that you aren't supposed to host services across the connection they have given.

As well as that legal consideration, a remote web-server will offer a greater bandwidth for people to access your site than you can (you're probably on ADSL, which means that even if you have multi-megabit downloads, you will still have sub-megabit uploads - whereas a remote server can offer gigabit access or more).

You can also pay your isp to make your ip static.

I have a Broadband Connection roadrunner to be specific. And Actually hosting it from my computer is way better than hosting it from a free server. RIng now i have 40 gigs pof space to host a website, And actually the bandwith is pretty good to I run streaming media off my Computer and it loads fine. As for teh software i requested, i've allready found a software No-ip it might not be the best out there but it's working and that's all i need thax anyways though,

or you can just make it a static IP... what do you mean pay them to do it?
