I'm sure debates have raged between these two servers on these forums in the past, but I need a little Windows info. I've only done sites on Linux servers but I really want to get into ASP as a freelancer. I'm putting together rates for hosting plans for a new client and I want to plug ASP to him (for my own interest... the site is simple and doesn't need a whole lot of complicated language) but I'm concerned about security. I've heard that Linux is always better than Windows for security because so many people want to bring Microsoft down.

Aside from the great benefits of language support from Windows, should I be concerned about suggesting that over Linux to my client? Are there any particular hosts that are better than others? This is a very budget project so I'm trying to keep suggestions under $10 a month but with good bandwidth.

Suggestions would be helpful, as I am meeting with him on Saturday and I've never had to set up a client with a host.

MS products are targeted more by hackers, but as far as actual security goes...

on a properly configured setup, I don't think that MS is any less secure than Linux - so long as the server admin is taking the right precautions, such as using hardware firewalls and keeping up to date with patchs and fixes...

We've been running MS servers for our website, intranet and demonstration server, and have only had one security failure in about three years (accidentally left an FTP server wide open - allowing someone to use it as a P2P uploader).

Thanks... that's good to know for the future. I researched some hosts last night and came upon HostingExcellence.com... they ranked #2 on thehostinglist.com and have some really great plans. This is the first time I've ever had to search for a host for a client.
