Hey everyone! I'm having a problem with my FTP account...Ok so I recently bought hosting..its all good. And my hostess sent my all the information to connect to my FTP..fine. Well, I recently started college, and I have my trusty laptop connected to my schools network...my FTP will not connect to save my life! Now my school told us they have a firewall set up..so no one can download music. So I went down and talked to the techs to see if maybe my FTP was being blocked by the firewall, and they assured me that FTP was fine and its not covered on our firewall...ok. The tech asked me what port I had it set at (in the FTP) and I told him I was using the default 21...he told me to try port 25...tried it nothing. I mean I have tried every single port 21, 22, 23,24, 25... and it goes nowhere. Now I really want to manage my website..really bad. and then I thought "My domain came with a Cpanel!" And i typed the URL in and it times out...lol I can't seem to win this battle..but I'm determined! I have checked my internet settings and they're fine..So, can anyone help me at all? Or does anyone possibly know of a file manager that I could somehow use? Please Help!

Hmm if your cpanel timed out your hosting may not be setup yet. I would contact your host or try to connect to the ftp via another system. It could also be your own Firewall blocking the connection.

I'm thinking its a fire wall on the college's network... erg. which I'm not enjoying because I have this website and I can't update it. Now if I were to use my roommates laptop my cpanel will time out and I asked my friend who isn't in college to try the URL on her computer from home and she said it asked for the username and password...which is great! but I'm still determined to find a way around it...any ideas to help? Thanks

I had problems checking my pop email account when I lived on campus. I never really found a way around that. I still think its one of your own firewalls not the schools. Do you have a firewall on your computer?

My computer has Norton Antivirus on it... and I went into the program and it says no programs are blocked..but I'm not sure where to look exactly..

Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security?

I have Norton Internet Security...on my computer.
That's it. I have NIS also and one of my FTP programs doesn't work with NIS turned on. Try disabling your firewall for like 5 minutes and see if you can connect to the ftp.

Either double click on the yellow icon in the bottom right on your start bar, once opened click on Personal Firewall, there will be a Turn Off button or you can simply right click on the yellow icon and click disable norton internet security. You will be prompted to choose how long you want it disabled. Usually just disabling the Firewall will work.
