I have a dedicated server and I was wondering if anyone knew of any sites that offer a yahoo/msn/aim type of instant messenger which i can purchase for my server that peope from my site can download and install.

I am looking for directions, can it be done, what would i need to do/read!

any insight or help would be apprciated

No. Gaim is like AIM. If I understand what you're asking. I think what you're thinking of is Private messages?

Because the user(who is probably the admin of the site in question) is looking for a messaging system for a linux server not an operating system.

Sounds to me like you're after something a bit more like a Java chatroom....

Have you thought of going to http://hotscripts.com and seeing if there's anything there that could help?
