I am wondering I like windows for my games etc. But I am curious about linux. And I am wondering if I can install linux along side windows? Without formatting my hard drive etc? Or do I need 2 hard drive or just 2 partions or what?

If you are just curious you can use something called a LiveCD its basically linux on a disc. Read this thread http://www.htmlforums.com/showthread.php?t=47847 most of the livecd's have a way to install it onto a linux partition if you want to use it as a real os and be able to save data and what not.

but yes it is possible to run both, not at the same time though. you can have a dual boot system. but in order to do this you have to install linux first then windows. you cannot install them on the same partition as they are different partition formats.
linux will see windows but windows won't see linux.

Hmm I've heard that you should install windows first and then linux only because problems seem to arise if its not done this way.

you maybe right. it has been a few years since I did that. in fact, you are right. this way linux will install LILO for the boot partition. sorry about that.
I was probably thinking of XP and 98 dual boot. 98 has to go first. :)

Check their documentation, most livecd versions have an installation program. It should create the partition for you or you might want to find a program that can do linux partitions and just partition off some of your free hard drive space. Partition Magic does what you want, not sure if you can get a trial for it or not.

Ubuntu comes as a 2-CD set... one is the LiveCD, the other is the Install CD.
Word of warning -- if you want to dual-boot then Ubuntu is not the best distro for you. It does not have the nice GUI install and auto-partitioning that something like SuSE or Redhat/Fedora will. If you're not comfortable with manual partitioning you may be better off installing one of those distributions and then sticking Ubuntu over the top in the partition that it creates.
I can, however, recommend Ubuntu as I've been using it as my primary OS since last Autumn and have had no real issues with it.
Good luck !
