help with fading images!

hi! i'm looking for coding which i'm able to fade multiple images with....it's kind of hard to describe, but i need to be able to have four images visible, and then have each of those images fade into different images (at different speeds) and then have that process loop continuously.....i don't even know if this is possible without using flash or whatnot, so any insight you could give me would be a huge help! thanks :)
