View Full Version : Flash Radio?

hello, (i posted this in Multimedia Elements by mistake, sorry if that's really bad  )

three questions:

1) Can I create an .swf file that is able to point to audio files located on server? Which is best file format to stream at good quality (.mp3, .m3u etc.) ??

2) The idea is to have 24 one hour music files in the folder and then the .swf file can "get" each one in sequential order. This would make it easy to switch out files without having to bring them into flash.

3) also, is it possible to have the .swf file playing continuously and referred to from an html file so that when a listener hits the link it doesn't start from the beginning - but rather joins into the stream?

This is for a not-for-profit internet radio station that we're trying to start up. Based in new york, it would strive to deliver quality, dj based programming in the style of Paris based stations RadioNova or FG. Proceeds would go to support studio time for emerging artists. The live 365 formats are too formal, expensive and commercial so we're trying to see if it can be at least started this way. Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated!

thanks,

stuart

Hi there Stuart,

I believe this would certainly be possible but would involve some serious scripting. I'm finally taking more interest in Action Script and I know I've embedded Video into Flash then exported it as an SWF, I'm sure you can do the same with all sorts of media.

I think your talking about having this web application broadcasting these 24 sequenced files. I believe that you should use PHP or Cold Fusion sessions for this, now again not having got that far in my own personal experience I know there are members of the team here that can help. So I'm going to have to leave the finer details to a PHP/Cold Fusion/Flash expert that should wander into this thread.

I am dying to ask, why Flash...? Why not use Xhtml and Flash for Eye candy? Alot more help will be available if you choose another technology.

But I hope that points you in the right direction.

Good Luck

Thank you, I will look into xhtml and cold fusion and see if i can figure out something from there.

Where would I look for php/coldfusion help?
