I'm a Flash novice, quite literally, and I was wondering if anyone knew any sites that gave good tutorials for Flash. The ones incorporated into the program are ok, but I want to know how to create links etc.

Secondly, is it a good idea to create an entire website in Flash?

Hello AlCapone. If you haven't noticed, the tutorials that come with Flash 5, I have experienced are quite helpful. Creating links is introduced in them and many other great things that you can use to make your pages very good looking. I would assume that you are using Flash 5. Otherwise, I think that it would be helpful for yourself if you would upgrade.

As to whether or not it is good to create a whole site in flash, from what I have experienced, I think taht it is not so great. You would have to target it towards a certain browser size, which is not good to do. Also, sites look a lot better when you incorporate many different aspects of web design into one page.

I hope that this helps! You can PM me or e-mail me at cao825@aol.com if you have any other questions. I can give you tutorials, I am planning on making them for my Intara Web site anyways. THANKS!

This is not true. Flash can (and will) change with the size of the users screen. Just goto www.eye4u.com and change the size of your screen WHILE the flash is playing.

tutorials? www.volcanic-design.com/volc_links.htm

Are you saying that you can size it in percentages and not pixels? How would I accomplish this? The only option that I have ever seen in Modify > Movie is pixel size changing for the size of the flash movie. I have never seen a way to change it to percentages, so then it would change for each browser.

Thanks for restating what I said HTMLGirl ;) !

when you embed the movie onto a HTML page, state the size in percentages.... not in the pixel width. vector graphics will look the same, even when maximized beyond what you designed them for.

Seriously, goto www.eye4u.com and watch and see. Even minimize your browser window to something rediculous like 200wide by 100tall. The movie not only still plays... but the aspect ratio is kept.

Thanks for the replies. I have already created my site in HTML, so people will have an alternative to the Flash site. Could someone please tell me where it shows you how to create links in the flash tutorials?!?

I will, Dr. Web. And thanks for the help ;) ! Anyways, AlCapone, it is not very hard at all to create them. If you want to create graphics links, then you have to create them as a button and use the goto action. For text links, all you have to do is go to the characters window and type in the URL where it says URL. Obviously enough. Note: All of my advice is using Flash 5. I don't work with earlier versions. ;) ! Hope this helps!

Hey thanks for the link rjl, I am also currently learning flash, and have read MANY tutorials, but those seemed to help more than any others.

Hi everyone,
This isn't really a reply, but more or less a cry for inspriation.

At college, I've been given an assignment. This will involve using a flash splash screen (as much I hate them as they are not user friendly) and usually take ages to download.

The school is using their own apache web/proxy server. Given that, any ideas on a website theme? I'm all out of ideas.

Effectively, I need to use either pHp or ASP (according to them, which I find silly as their version of the apache wont support ASP anyway) for bonus marks :)

Which I have no problem doing. I'm just after ideas. Something different, not what you see in a typical free template.

Effectively, I have to show off html, css, and javascript, some php, and they want this website to be done mainly in flash (which really does suck).

Maybe I should do a website ranting on about how much I hate flash?

Any suggestions?
