hi everyone,

i have just bought flash 5 which i am *very* excited about....however, i am finding it a little tricky to get to grips with to say the least!! i have worked my way through the lessons that come with it and the tutorial in the using flash manual. but not that much is making sense.

i know it will take time and i have tried looking for tutorials and come across a few good ones, although many are a bit advanced.

what i really need to find though are some downloadable ones, because i will probably have to pay per second for internet use in the near future. i know it is expecting a bit much to get free flash tutorials you can use offline but i would be most grateful if you knew of any...

also, i have some book tokens so i can splash out on a book or two...can anyone recommend a good one that is quite thorough? i want examples etc i can work through rather than just reading about what each tool is supposed to do etc if possible....there seem to be way too many to choose from and i can't afford to buy the wrong ones!

many thanks in advance :)

What's wrong with that. It's a great program. I will buy it myself when I get the money. How many sites do you see daily that use Flash? A lot. It is the one of the most popular programs on the internet.

Personally, I think that jalouda made a good purchase.

thanks for the support prodeveloping! good to know someone does not think i am a few sandwiches short of a picnic! :D

actually, i bought a macromedia web design studio, a special bundle available to students and teachers. i only found out about the deal recently and it is a great opportunity to get the software at a big discount. it is still expensive, but you get dreamweaver 4, fireworks 4, flash 5 and freehand 9 in the bundle.

as far as i know the US price is $249! you can find out more at http://www.macromedia.com/resources/student/

in the UK the price is £229 + VAT and teh details are at http://www.macromedia.com/uk/solutions/educator/overview_edu.html

the only catch is that you can't upgrade the software and you are not supposed to use it for commercial purposes.

Jalouda,

this book got me pretty far. It explained allpretty well, but flash was a bit of a learning curve for me.

I believe Jalouda already explained that she purchased a package that included it.

Oh, yeah.... and its not leagal to use hacks, cracks, and pirated software. But you already knew that..... so the answer would be that some people are honest, believe it or not.

Also, think of it like this: Granted macromedia makes a good sum on the sale of flash.... but some of that profit is put back into the developers pocket when macromedia asks for new versions, and upgrades. If everyone stole it, the developers wouldn't get paid... and there would be no flash.
