Hey guys!

Well, after giving hours of bull, bravado and strutting I managed to talk this guy into me re-designing his website for him.

Trouble is he's a flippin' Film Director, and he want's a 2 min showreel on the site.

Ok. So I have wangled a way to convert said reel from digibeta to MPEG, so that's hurdle 1 over with. Now, I am prolly gonna put a simple A HREF link to
1] A full no compressed MPEG - Aimed squarely at the Fatcats with the cheque books and big fat download pipes, ie T1, T3 conections.
And
2] The showreel pretty highly compressed and sliced into little downladable chunks - Aimed at normal Humes with mere mortal conections like dial ups.

Well that's the plan NEway, so Guys and Gals, so am I doing it right? I don't wanna be messing around with Adobe Premier or NEthing like that.

I mean how, diff is Vid Streaming to set up???

No i mean how difficult would it really be i.e. for me - Mr Neanderthal . . .

Please help me out, I gotta come through on this one . . . [If I stand a chance to be come a WebbyD!]

Thanx as always guys,

well your link to uncompressed on t1 is a straight file shot. The compressed version.... I am thinking to use realplayer to do the compression/ streaming for you. If you use the advanced version of RP to save a .mpg file, it can convert it to .rp format... which will take care of the streaming as well.

There are others to be sure, but the support for RP is good, as well as the large audience.

Thanx Doc,
Say I was wondering, you don't know what sort of market saturation REAL has do ya?
I mean that's why I wanted to steer clear of Real stuff because I want everyone to be able to (should they choose) watch the Showreel. I had Real on my rig for around a fortnight B4 i ditched it coz it wanted to bloody take over my Sys! It didn't like me not choosing it as the default player.
So to re-cap, I want PPl to be able to play it regardless of what Apps they have installed.

Let me know watcha think about that.

well the windows media player will play most types.... but you cant guess what they have. I'd put the file up in the most common formats, and let the surfer choose.
In my opinion they are: .mpg, .avi, quicktime, and realpayer.

These should cover MOST people no matter what application they use.... BUT not all support video streaming.

Right on Doc, thank you very much for ya help.

I think I'll leave the streaming thing well alone, certainly at least for this project
hey did that sound professional?* ;P

What's the diff between say MPG and AVI, I mean I would guess that the potential image quality of an AVI would be lower that of an MPG ut i don't know for sure. Does NE1 know of a good tute i can have a look at that covers their relative good and bad points?

Man, I tell you this place is like the rescuing hand that pulls you from the cliff-face.

Many thanks,
