Anyone have any idea why Netscape handles tables the way they do?

The most frustrating part of designing a complex webpage using tables is checking to make sure it looks the same in Netscape and IE. And of course, it's usually Netscape that chokes when it comes to tables.

Are they just trying to annoy people who design there pages using IE? And force people to use Netscape Composer to make everything?

I think they just might do that... :)

Actaully, Netscape cliams that they use the same coding support as IE, however simple tests prove otherwise. The main problem is that their development team is small compared to Microsoft's army of programmers, so lake of quality somewhere is to be expected I guess.

I have been pulling my hair out over Netscape tables. My problem is that I do a simple table for a template, and put a background color in to see it, and it covers the entire table data field. Then, if I put a background image in, it only covers a small square, about 75 pixels wide and high, and the rest is blank. It doesn't even default to the bgcolor. Spans (rows and columns) are involved, and possibly are the complicator. Does anyone have any insight?

Thanks.
