View Full Version : Software Problem; Stand-By errors?

Greetings to all that may or may not know me! :D
I recently purchased a wireless mouse for my laptop (using Windows XP). The software was installed as Kensington Mouseworks. The mouse works great, but I have found a flaw that has only emerged when I have the mouse all hooked up. Basically, I can't set my laptop into a Stand-By mode without manually crashing it.
To further describe the situation, let me begin by saying getting into a standby mode is working fine. Once into that hibernative state, it recovers with a black screen. Nothing appears, but I can tell everything is as it was, since I was able to hear music on one occasion. :P I have tried fussing with this mess, but as long as the module connected to the laptop (w/e part recieves the wireless signal), any attempts to bring back my laptop will result with a black screen until: 1) The battery dies, or 2) I manually crash it and restart it.

I hate doing this, especially since I lose data each time. If anyone has a clue as to what's happening, I'd greatly appreciate a response. Thanks!

uninstall the mouse and see if that caused the problem...

If you are hearing music in Hibernate mode, then something is not right... Hibernate is almost shutdown, with your RAM imaged to the hard-drive...

This is a quick post before I go elsewhere, so I didn't have time to uninstall the software yet..

This is a stand-by mode. Not hibernation. From what I understand, these are two different terms (I would assume so since it gives me the choice of either).

Software: Uninstalled
Problem: Ceased/None

Software: Reinstalled
Problem: Re-ocurring

I'd like to find an alternative to other software, if possible. It's a good mouse and I'm quite fond of it (especially compared to Microsoft's models). Any suggestions?

I don't know where to find mouse software
if there is such a way, but it'd help if
you posted what mouse it was, model, etc.

Check the mouse company's website for their latest driver - it may just be that the one you have is slightly old and conflicts with XP...

Everything you'd need to know about the mouse (as shown on mouse):
PilotMouse Optical Wireless
Model#72129
Serial No. A0414000025
Kensington Technology Group,
a division of ACCO Brands, inc.
U.S. 800-535-4242
www.kensington.com

I checked the website, it's still one of the latest models out, and still the latest model at all the nearby stores. I couldn't find anything on the software itself. Another dead end? Hmm... I thought this was just an easy problem to fix... Oh well; don't waste too much time on it if you really don't think you'll find anything. I just gotta learn to stop using the Stand-By mode. :D

Ok, I worded it wrong.... I already found that, but I meant I didn't find anything pertaining to any problems it could cause.. Still can't...
