Could you tell me how much I should charge for a banner to be placed on my web site? Do you charge a different rate for different size banners?
Thanks for any help you can give me. My web site's topics is travel and can be found here: http://www.wso.net/disney

Hi Diane,
How much traffic do you receive? (monthly unique, and monthly total impressions). Also do you have your own banner rotating script? One possibility might to be for you to get involved with a banner network, that sells and serves the banners for you, but I'd still like to get a read on your stats first.

My website has been getting about 20 - 30 hits per day (about 600 - 900 hits per month), but I don't know how many are unique.
I use FrontPage 2000, so I have a Banner Ad Manager built into the program.
My web site has a specific theme to it, so I would prefer ads that are related to the theme of my web site, rather than just accepting any ads.
Thanks for replying to my email.

Diane,
Most of the ad networks that pay decent cpms require that you have at least 150,000 pageviews per month. While you grow, CPC (cost per click) may be the way to go for you.
You might want to look at: http://www.valueclick.com http://www.eads.com
They offer among the highest CPC prces on the web. Also, if you;re going to try and sell your own space on a cpm level, try to start off on something small, like $2 cpm. When we first started looking for sponsors, we were charging $2 cpm, and gradually worked our way up.
If you do take on sponsors, make sure that you prepare an invoice and insertion to send out to your clients, and keep a spread sheet of transactions for yourself as well.

I checked out my web site's stats:
In the past week, I've had 22,490 successful requests for the past 7 days. For a month, that would equal approx. 90,000. Is that what you meant by pageviews?

Hi Diane,
It could mean pageviews, what kind of tracker are you using? It depends on if it's requests for htm and html [ages, or requests in general (including all of your images etc). If you are using a remotely hosted tracker, it probably means pageviews. If you are using internal server logs, you might be looking at requests for all material that the page uses.

I used a remotely hosted service (my web host - www.wso.net) Here is a reprint:Total successful requests: 22,490 (22,349)
Average successful requests per day: 3,220 (3,192)
Total successful requests for pages: 4,234 (4,209)
Average successful requests for pages per day: 606 (601)
Total failed requests: 308 (307)
Number of distinct files requested: 641 (641)
Number of distinct hosts served: 738 (735)
Number of new hosts served in last 7 days: 733
Total data transferred: 127,021 kbytes (125,846 kbytes)
Average data transferred per day: 18,187 kbytes (17,978 kbytes)
(Figures in parentheses refer to the last 7 days).

Diane,
Most likely, the total successful requests for pages represents your pageviews:
Total successful requests for pages: 4,234 (4,209)(
Figures in parentheses refer to the last 7 days).
4,209 * 4 = 16,836
So it looks like you are getting 16,836 pageviews per month.

Well, I guess I've got a ways to go then. I'll start concentrating more on getting out the word about my site, submitted to search engines and tinkering with my keywords.
Thanks again for your help

Diane,
The easiest (and cheapest) way to increase your traffic would be to contact webmasters of other similar sites, and trade links with them. The most effective link trades are at or near the very top of the page, where a visitor will see it when the page first loads. 123webmaster also has a few articles and tutorials on it's main page which will also highlight some effective promotion methods.
You should also consider purchasing a domain name. http://www.homepagenames.com is selling domains for only $13 a year, it is a very good investment.

Yes, I've been giving serious thought to getting my own domain name. I was just hoping to have some income from the web site to help defray the extra costs. I will take a look at those articles you mentioned, I'm sure they'll be of help to me. I've started exchanging links lately with others, and plan to add a page to my site about having others link their url. Might as well make it easy for people.
