Why is everything computer related becoming known in uppercase letters!?!

WWW
HTTP
HTML
MPEG
ATI
AMD
DVD
and the list goes oonnn....

Is it just to make us look smart?

"Jo, I got a WMA file encoded MPEG burned onto DVD with my 512KL2 cache AMD XP processor!"

because acronyms and abbreviations have always used upper case.

WWW = World Wide Web
HTML = HyperText Markup Language

XHTML = eXtensible HTML

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule:

MoD = Ministry of Defence (because "of" should never be capitalised)

I'm trying to think of another example - one I saw today, actually:

ULTra - Urban Light Transport (the last two letters are just used to make the abbreviated word snappy).
