Hi. My name is Pat and I'm a forum addict. I've been looking at this one on and off for a bit and it looked real good, so I thought I'd jump in. I'm middle aged, married to a COBOL programmer, mother of 2, grandmother of 1, and I got interested in the web a few years back and wanted to learn how to create a web site just because it looked interesting. It was. Now I do some volunteer sites and even some paid work, although I've never solicted any, and I'm not looking for more at the moment in any case. It's also increased my job skills a lot, although that wasn't really ever the plan. I'm most interested in the site I do for my son's band. That's a labor of love, and it's a joy to see that it actually does help to promote them.

I'd like to learn a lot more about web technology and in any case, for me, the learning has been the most fun part the whole experience.

Welcome Pat,

We have a few other COBOL dinosaurs lurking these forums, I see the breed is not yet extinct!

Thanks for all the nice welcomes. Jason, my husband's name is Bob, so he was clearly destined to be a COBOL dinosaur. He's trying not to be extinct quite yet.

I'm sorry. That last post was me. I'd forgotten that I'd gone home from work and wasn't logged in.

Trying this again - I thought I was logged for the last post. Apparently not. Third time's the charm?

Thanks for joining! Why don;t you post the URL for the "Labor of Love" web site. I'm sure we would like to see it.

Nah, we're only nice for the first day. After that we start hurling flaming hunks a SPAM at you. It's part of the initiation process for new members. Be prepared to duck. It get messier that a Gallagher show. Especially when that pixelmonkey is around.

I took a quick look at the band site. I really like the logos and color. Nice clean layout and design. Easy to navigate. Keep up the good work!

Thank you very much. And being nice for the first day isn't so bad. Some places have much more painful initiations.

Welcome to the Forums and be sure to check out The Spam Box (http://www.htmlforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=2725). I assure you that you'll find a load of recipes, rubbish + loads of other stuff :D

Welcome!
Speaking of the Spam Box, make sure to take a look at our world famous topic:
"Not a Snowball's Chance of Reaching 10 Pages (http://www.htmlforums.com/showthread.php?postid=19815#post19815)", which is now on page 142.

I was just looking at some sort of Spam and anchovie recipe, which certainly does look tempting. I'll try to catch up a bit tomorrow. Sure hope no one expects me to be working at work or anything like that.

Wow!! I love your website, it's great! One of the best I've seen for a long time in these forums (seriously!).

Well enjoy your stay!

Thank you Goldilocks, but I'm pretty sure they said that people were only nice for the first day here. This is the second day, so I don't know if you can say that.
I was planning to get up to speed on Spam recipes and other things today, but not only did I have to work at work, but they blew a transformer at the main office and we lost the internet for the whole day. That makes for inhumane conditions. Anyway, once again, thank you for all the nice welcomes. This seems to be the friendliest, most fun web design forum I've ever come across.

I'm the exception to the rule - I'm nice everyday!! ;) Anyway, you're not seriously trying to read that Snowball thread are you?? Once you start there's no going back...

Luckily we started early...152 pages to read doesn't seem like much fun to me.

Well, maybe it is a little hard for a newcomer to catch up on that kind of reading. Maybe I'll just wait for the movie to come out.

Wow! A movie, what a great idea!!

Spam Box the movie
Based on a true story...
...an enchanting tale of deranged monkeys, soiled boxers and family sized cans of SPAM.
