View Full Version : Domain name Question...
I was wondering if anyone knows how long after a domain registration expires it becomes available again. I know its not the date of expiration because I forgot to reregister one of mine once and was almost a month late but was still able to renew it. I have my eye on a couple, one which seems to have expired almost 2 months ago, but still shows up as unavailable.

Well it depends on who you registered your domain with.
So who did you register it with?
Well I was registered with optisoft.com but the ones I'm watching are registered with networksolutions.com.

Taken from networksolutions FAQs, at http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/help/general.jhtml :
14. The domain name I want has expired according to the WHOIS record. Why can't I register that name?
The WHOIS record "expiration date" simply indicates the current contract period for a domain name registration. Contract periods vary from one to ten years. If you fail to pay your registration fee, your domain name registration is subject to deactivation and eventual deletion from our systems under normal billing procedures and technology requirements. Many factors may cause the "expiration date" to vary from the eventual date of deletion.
15. When and how will a domain name whose "expiration date" in WHOIS has passed be available for me to register?
Once a domain name has been deleted from our systems under normal billing procedures and technology requirements, it no longer exists and therefore would be available for you to register through our website. To search for availability, please visit www.networksolutions.com and enter the name in the search box
Hope that helps.
