View Full Version : Be brutally honest.....

This is the test site that I've been working on. As you can see, it's rather basic. I don't want anything fancy since this is an industrial website.
Any critques, critcisms, comments?

Well, first, the products looks like a navbar. I tried to click on them!
Also about your company there is very little in that column. And then new producsts there is a lot, this accounts for a bad balance, which is not very pleasing to the eye, its confusing.
Apart from that the rest of teh pages are nice. But I wouldn;t cram the home-page with content, or just make it pleasing and attractive. Use some contrasting colours to get attention.

i agree with both of you...its ok, but there are some problems...
The content area on the homepage could use a little spice while still keeping it simple. The company info should be offset from the rest instead of sandwhiched inbetween the other columns.
You should consider creating the catolog (or a smaller version) in web pages... I can see it would require a lot of work but if its possible, itd be much easier for browsers to view it in html pages instead of those nasty pdf files.
Thank you for the suggestions, I'll be implementing many of the changes listed here shortly.
I went to W3C.org and performed an HTML check. I'll post the result in another thread, since I will be needing help with the interpretation. :)
Thanks to all who offered critques.

You might want to make it accessable for people using "Firefox". I know that there are millions of us.
Your good with a regular server though.
gogo, I tested the site on all major browsers including Mozilla and Mozilla (Firefox) and I had no problems. Which version are you using?
Thanks,
Stephen

Mozilla Firefox.
I couldn't navigate. Your four links at the top were unusable. Mozilla doesn't like shockwave. It isn't terrible, but it does make the site less spectacular.

That's odd, I have Firefox 0.8 and it has no difficulty with the flash buttons.
Can someone else verify this please.
Thanks gogo.

Another thing. I am using a browser that is for businesses. I don't think that Shockwave is usable on it.
It all depends on what businesses you want to be advertising to. If it is the general public that you are going for, your website is fine (providing they don't use anything other than Explorer). If you are aiming towards the big businesses, make not rely on the Shockwave.
I have not tried the Shockwave on Explorer, but I would suggest that you consider who you are aiming at as far as your products you are selling.

PS - I use 0.8 also...
Ahhhh, this makes sense now. You are correct, I had not considered that many business settings may not be flash enabled.
Thanks for the input, this will be the first order of business this weekend.

There is no need for the flash. The same effect could be created with a solid state gif and a rollover animated gif, which would make it more universially compatible. An example of something similar can be seen at botron.com.
Also, the graphics and layout need a bit of work IMO.
Can you elaborate a bit on your comments about the graphics. I'm not certain what you mean. As for the layout, that will be changing soon.
Thanks,
Stephen
