View Full Version : New Forum Suggestions?

I've been thinking about adding some new forums to the site, or possibly some completely new categories, touching more on the subject of managing business and ecommerce. Does anyone have any input on this, or category suggestions on what might be needed?

Sounds like a good idea Jason! I put my formidable mental powers to work on some suggestions. At least both brain cells are churning now!

hmmmnn..... I am thinking this forum could deal with the following topics:
Effective e-commerce UI design. (why people click what they do)
Effective promotion of products/ services online
Why surfers buy/ do not buy on the web
Streamlining online sales....from the home-page to providing a receipt for the online transaction
Accepting payment online: Credit card/ escrow/ paypal and others.
These wouldn't need to be topics in and of themselves....but rather covered in the forum.
Hmmm, I think these will go the same way the poor Hardware Forum did :(

May be you could have a forum about domains/web space, where people could dicuss the best places to get them and the pros/cons on buying them.
(I know this is basically what the Website Tools & Services is about, but this would be only on domains.)
You could also use it as a place where people could sell/trade domains.

How about a SPAM recipe forum. How about hosting the world's largest SPAM recipe archives?

Actually I like this idea very much. It seems that 99% of the questions in Website Tools and Services is, "Where do I get a free/cheap domain" or "Where do I get free/cheap webspace" It would be nice to go in there and find out what sort of tools people are using on their existing sites and recommendations instead of the same questions. Not to be too pushy but I would prefer to see discussions about guestbooks, counters/trackers, forums/bulletin boards, forms, etc, the many tools and services people use to build a nice website. Not just free domains and webspace, maybe these people need a forum to themselves to keep asking the same question over and over.

How about a recommendations forum. It could be about any aspect of web development, sort of asking the question what are the one or two most useful things you have found in developing your site or abilities, or what got you interested in putting your webpages on the internet. Just a thought.

It could be, but the reason I was thinking there should be a specific forum for it is because most people stumble onto this site with questions they want answered. Alot of them are newbies but they do have some knowledge and experience that could be useful to all of us even if they don't have technical information, and in a way it would give them a chance to give back something and feel useful. Yeah, I know alot of them just want what they want and don't give a darn about helping other people out, but then there are people like me. I can't help anyone out with java, perl, or anything like that. But I have 3 years experience with messing around with different software, messing around with different hardware, tweaking my system, signing up for a myriad of freeware and shareware, etc. That information has turned out to be useful to alot of people even if I'm not a techie. Anyway, the point being, that people won't think to make a post about what they have learned unless there is a forum for it, "General Discussion" wouldn't inspire most people to talk about it. LOL And I bet there is alot of different software, hardware, techniques, tools and services, that I don't even know about that would be useful to me and I would like to see people talk about that.

How about a place that people can go when they can get help when they have problems with a Microsoft product? The problem is that the htmlforums server/s might not be able to handle all of it the posts.

Heh, actully "Software Tips and Info" should be suitable, as Microsoft products are usually software.

Gremlin? I'm insulted. Yes, it was me. My session expired right before I hit "Submit Reply" and it said that I was unregistered.

Sorry prodeveloping, I didn't mean that you were a gremlin! Somewhere in another thread, I said something about there being gremlins in the forums that were unregistering people when they least expected it.

Thanks. I'm just kidding about the gremlin thing. I don't care. I understand your feelings. I feel the same way about unregistered users.

I didn't say I had anything against unregistered users (well, I could tolerate them to a point anyway!). I meant that the gremlins were cheekily and unexpectedly unregistering those of us that have already registered, the naughty blighters.
