Hello saket, welcome to htmlforums (and thanks for registering with us :D)

That's an awful lot of info for a single post, but I'll help you as much as possible. I guess the best way to do this will be to address your post point by point, so here goes.

"plese give some information about meta tags, keywords..."

Meta Tags: This is informationsed primarily by the search engines to locate your site. There are MANY different Meta tags that you can use, however the most common are:

Title:
<TITLE>This is the title of your site</TITLE>
Many search engines use the Title tag as the title of your listing. Additionally, keywords in your title are used to find your site from a surfer's search, and are given more "weight" than words in your document. The title tag is also what is displayed in the title bar (blue thing on the top of the page) when a surfer has your site opened.

Description:
<META name="Description" content="Describe the purpose of your site.">
Many search engines use the Description tag as the description for your listing. Additionally, keywords in your description are used to find your site from a surfer's search, and are given more "weight" than words in your document.

Keywords:
<META name="Keywords" content="put, your, search, terms, here, separated, by, commas">
Search engines will use keywords as additional search terms for your page. More "weight" is given to keywords than words in your document.

"how to catch robots on our site"
If you're talking about the kind of robots that spider your site into search engines, you can usually catch them using a traffic logger or tracker which lists referring site URLs. You can find such loggers at:

If you are talking about the kind of robot that harvests your email address and spams you (that would be that bad kind), you can read about stopping them here:

"how to list in search engine..."
Each search engine will have a link on it's main page that will say something along the lines of "Add URL" or "Add a Link" look for this.

"how to improve lisitings, how to make site to be listed in top ten ranks in our category."

Search engines use ever-changing algorithms which base their formulas on a combination of your meta tags, and your page contnent. In additon, several search engines also use "link popularity" as a factor, which means the more people that link to your site, the better your ranking will be. Tey only real way to improve is to experiment with your meta tags.

Also keep in mind thatmeta tags will not effect your listings on hand edited directories such as Yahoo and DMOZ.org.

Thanks for some good tips, Jason! There are also a few things I have heard about to improve ranking that don't even involve the meta tags. Make sure you use header tags for titles and subtitles instead of font size tags. I didn't think this made a difference but found out that the words between header tags are scored higher than anything between regular font tags. Make sure you use the alt tags and put some real descriptions for your pictures in there instead of something like alt="zrp54.gif" have it say alt="a map of the geology of Illinois", these alt tags are read and used by the robots too.
