Can anyone recommend a good book for learning Javascript? Maybe one with a reference of Javascript syntax in the back.

Wrox Press (Now APress) Has a good Book Beginning JavaScript. If you want, go to W3Schools.com and check out the tutorials. They should give you enough of a start before you deside to buy an expensive book.
