Hello,
I just transfered my site over to a host wich provides SSL for secure transactions. I was taking paypal payments thru a 3rd party cart, which provided more shipping options. I wanted the general concensus on whether i should process credit cards myself (if yes, how do i go from getting a card number on a form to having the $ deposited in my bank account) or continue to use paypal. Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

If you can code up or buy something that looks profesional and is secure (quality coding), it may be worth it.

Someone pointed out the other day in one of the forums I belong to that after all, ebay uses paypall and so do many of their users and that maybe the familiarity of paypall may create more trust...

If you are processing more than $1,000 a month, you might consider a merchant account. There are also other third party merchant accounts (like mypaysystems & 2CO) that can also allow you to take credit card information on your site.

If you get a merchant account, you also get a gateway (LinkPoint, authorizenet.com, etc) Both will provide you with an API to process CCs on your website. Both will also give you a URL to send your customers over to to capture the CC data on their secure website.
