Okay guys, I just got a new comp last Wensday;
well before I get 'round to getting a router/switch
to get connected to our cable internet, I got a question:

I'm thinking of using the anti-virus my family bought
for the family computer, on my computer;
but I'm not entirely sure if its a good anti-virus program..

Its called 'Win Cleaner Anti-Virus Ultra'
and what makes me question it, is that we got it
from Wal-Mart, and not a computer store...

Anyways, I'm just wondering if you guys have heard
of it, and if it was in a good/bad light, etc.
so I know if I need to buy a copy of McAfree or Norton, etc.

Regards,
!~ Jonathan

I bought my broadband router from Amazon, and not a regular computer supplier.

It doesn't matter where you get the software/hardware from, just that it does the job.

I hadn't heard of this software before now, but here is a review of it I found by googling for Win Cleaner Anti-Virus Ultra review:

Personally I use Norton software.

I use AVG Antivirus, at least it's free.

Mcafee antivirus is bloated in size and it doesnt work very well

norton works half decent but its buggy.

trendmicro is light in size runs reliably but some viruses are able to stop it from running if your comptuer is infected. it also doesnt always pick up all the viruses unless you do a full system scan very often.

panda antivirus is reliable it's scanning ability seems pretty good because it picks up spyware and viruses on your system when u dont do a full system scan. I uninstalled trend micro and installed panda on a computer and it detected and cleaned a virus right away. But this program is very very anyoying because it gives you 5 milling popups regarding security alerts every 2 minutes.

Just my personal observations i could be wrong about some of my opinions.

I disagree. I haven't had one problem in 6 years I have been using it.

on some virus's it can disable any of them, inlcuding mcafee and norton so it doesn't matter on the brand.

in my opinion Panda is the worse one. is doesn't get all of the virus's and I have had many people tell me that. in fact a guy at work just recently got hit with mydoom when it was big and panda never saw it, even on a full scan. downloaded stinger from mcafee and got rid of it.

I like mcafee but they are changing there politics so I might not be with them for much longer.
