I just wanna ask if there is any software to convert a speech in mp3 format into text file. The speech is in English.

that would be pretty cool, then you can get lyrics to songs.
my guess is that you will not find such a program.

Technology isn't developed enough for such programs. They have still made some programs, where you talk in your mic and your speech is written down, however, those are still very simple and undeveloped and they make a lot of mistakes. So you will still need to wait several years.

BTW, that brought to mind my father's question "why can't I just scan a paper with text only and then edit the text in Word??"

You can...as long as you have OCR software :)

yeah OCR is great, but very expensive if you want a good one.

I guessed there is some kind of software for that, and I tried to explain that to him but he didn't understand why you can't do it just like that :)

er.. wrong...
Dragon have been at this for 25 years now, using neural networks to learn speech patterns and convert into words.
Okay, so it doesn't work right from the box, but it is pretty good, and very quick to adapt to new speech patterns.
The latest version (been about for two years) allows for profiles where different users patterns are stored and learnt.
While I was at university, I had some friends who wrote a software that could pick out words in a wav file (slice at the pause between each word), then place a frequency analysis on a neural map, which then generated a word.
I guess if two undergrads can do that in their spare time, a company like Dragon which has very clever Doctorates can do a lot more.

Sounds cool, but how exact is that Dragon? Do you know any website, I'd be interested to look at one?

Dragon is the company, Dictate is the software.
IBM ViaVoice is another.
Accuracy - straight out of the box it is obviously not 100%, but I got told that after about an hour learning session it had greatly improved.
The learning happens over a sentence - you talk, and then you correct. It remembers what you said for a particular word so that if you correct it, it reinforces the connection you specify, and lowers the strength for the pattern/word connection you say was wrong.
If you don't correct it, it simply reinforces the connection it just made.

Pity, they don't offer any trial version. I would have liked to try it out.

Why don't you use a speech typing program and play the mp3 on a cd into the your microphone on your computer. It should work... but if there is music on the mp3 I don't know how well it will work.
