http://www.x-cart.com is great, but it costs.
Try using PayPal, it automatically sets up a shopping cart and accepts all major credit cards without you having to have a merchant account and all the rest of the hassles.

We tried different carts - our own is the best for us. Just my opinion.

Here are two free and easy to use carts. Their shipping calculation is more customizable than PayPal. For a little fee, you get their premium cart that has more bells and whistles:

Shopping carts are offered by 2co and ikobo. Credit card acceptance and processing is also offered by both the companies. ikobo is getting famous to offer online money transfer fastest of the world service. You can try any of the mentioned companies.

Many companies such as paypal (http://paypol.com), 2co (http://2checkoat.com) and ikobo (http://www.ikobo.com) can meet your requirement. IMO,I prefer ikobo. Becouse its total fees are lowest among the three companies. It is important to your small business. Visit their websites for more details before make decision.

That e-commerce service provider is good, who also provides IPN (Instant Payment Notification) to its merchant. 2cheekout and ikobo are two companies which provides IPN information to its merchants.
Whenever a customer makes purchases from merchants website and makes credit card payment the Instant Payment Notification is sent to the merchants email.

I agree with you. A good ecommerce provider must provide IPN service. Because IPN information is important to merchants. Ikobo offers IPN service too. This is one reason of why I prefer ikobo.

I guess there are a few questions, What type of Server software are you currently using? ASP, PHP, Perl, CGI(C/C++ stuff) .....
Then we can give you better answers to suit your needs.

It's true there are quite a lot of options out there, each of them having good and bad sides. Of course paypal is the most famous, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily the best. A lot of people complain about them, see www.paypalsucks.com for example. Of course there are some who just post bad stuff for the sake of posting, but they can't all be like that. Some of those must be true. Other possibilities are: 2checkout, authirize.net, ikobo and so on. You should look some of them up for yourself.
