OK,
I am charged with the task of establishing an e-commerce site.
I will NOT use paypal because anyone who wants to pay would be FORCED to establish a paypal acct BEFORE they can purchase on my site.
I am trying to decide between www.propay.com and www.2checkout.com
Problem is if i go for propay, I will have to build my own secure page.
Sooooooooooooo
I have visited www.pgp.com and read about the public and private keys. BUT how do imstall them in such a way that i canauthor a "HTTPS" Page?

All i need to do id create a https page with a secure form and capture the credit card number.
BUT HOW??
Otherwise i go with 2checkout and spend a high ammount on fees.
Thanx 4 the help

Albatross,

The complexity of this whole process depends on your web host - do you mind letting me know who they are?

You'll need to purchase a SSL certificate. There's plenty of alternatives for this - freessl.com, comodo.com, geotrust.com, etc.

In order to purchase a SSL certificate you'll need to get your web host to generate a CSR for you. Some hosts will do this for you, whereas others will not.

You'll also need a dedicated IP for your site. Unless you've specifically paid for this already then you probably won't have it. This typically costs around $2 - $5 per month. You'll have to contact your web host regarding this.

I can help you out some more once I find out more about your web hosting environment.

Cheers,

James

Like James said, all you need is the certificate. They are easy to get, you buy them form any number of sources. Any reputable hosting company will install the cert for you, if they won't then change hosts. After the cert is installed you just make your secure pages/forms like you do any other web page pretty much.

Actually new settings in paypal don't require account setup.

But anyway, 2checkout is good. Never used propay. Played with Stormpay, seems to work okay.

Personally I think it depends on what cart system you plan to use. Some carts, like Agora, support some carts better than others (OS commerce does the same thing).

So maybe you can check out cart/store solutions first... then choose a payment processor?
