I just got a new computer system and decided to try the multiple monitor feature of Windows 98. If you haven't already tried it you need to. This is one of the coolest features of Windows. It seems so natural after just a short while. Watching the mouse move across two monitors for the first time was a real treat, I think I was laughing with delight for 5 minutes.

two monitors?? does that mean you need two graphic cards installed etc? how do they hook up?
I have enough trouble focusing on one ..hehe :)

To run multiple monitors there needs to be a video card installed for each monitor. I'm using the onboard 4x AGP video as the primary and an installed PCI video card as the secondary. I recommend you read the W98 help files (Managing hardware and software) for instructions and the "display" troubleshooting section for more info before trying it.

I believe you can download a W98 bootdisk from this site...

I also use dual monitors, but not quite like you do Kevin. When on the run, and using my laptop...I enable the output, without disabling the laptop view. You can even set the monitor for different resolution than the laptop. Useful for presenting stuff, and no extra video cards necc.

Hi Web,
Yes, that is a very useful feature of many laptops. And since it is built in feature it is easy to use. With a PC you need to actually crack open the case and get you hands dirty (so to speak). I was pleasently surprised at how easy it was to setup and run on my W98 PC. (I now have a desktop of 1600 by 800 pixels.) And like the laptop you can run different resolutions and color depths on each display. I believe you can run as many monitors as you can install video cards for, but that might start to bog down a slow system. On my new 700mhz AMD based system there is no real speed difference running 2 monitors. Its really a blast!!
