They just sold one in northern California, Leo. I saw the blurb in a 'koffeeklatch' newsletter. I wasn't sure if I should believe it, but then I remembered something rather important - a fool and his money... ;)
A buyer on eBay has purchased an 82-acre town, Bridgeville, in northern CA. The new owner paid $1.78 **million** for the town, described as a 'fixer-upper'. It's 400+ miles north of San Francisco, is a former mining town, has 670 residents and it's own zip code. No one knows who bought the town or what the plans are for the town. eBay spokesperson, Kevin Pursglove, says, "it's the first town sold on eBay."

hehe, yup, plenty of people with more money than sense.
It would be kinda cool though, "hi, welcome to my town, no really, I own it" :P

He's one of the towns biggest (and most ruthless) employers. He owns the local Country Club, the biggest gym, a national sportswear chain, the local football team, the sports ground that is shared by the football and Rugby League team...and I can't wait to see him fall off his pedestal.
Ebay tickles me.
A journalist for a U.K. computers magazine, recently listed the full contents of his house on Ebay and made £3,000+ in a matter of days.
He even managed to sell a half full jar of jam that he found lurking in the back of his kitchen cupboard! Eeewwww!
But a friend spent last thursday night stranded on Saddleworth Moor because his dumb brother-in-law had bought a car on Ebay. The darn thing broke down after 10 miles.

They were there for over 3 hours cos the car wasn't yet covered by his breakdown policy. They had to ring around friends and family to come and rescue them :P

hahahaha - hmm, driving without breakdown cover is like flying without a parachute - fine so long as nothing goes wrong.

I would love to own my own town...but I don't know where I'd find a cage and litter box big enough for it, and I'm not quite sure on care instructions....and I can only imagine what a mess a town can make.
But I'd name the town Sprinkles On My Ice Cream Make Me Smile.
That should go over well in Texas.
kate!

You know, I'm not sure which idea intriques me more - the thought of having my own town in Texas that I could rename "Diefenbaker" or "Peacenik", or the thought of having enough money to buy a town in Texas that I could rename.
Mind you, the legalities would be interesting. I'm a Canadian. I own land in Texas. But what if I want "my" land to be part of Canada? We would follow Canadian laws, have Canadian voting rules, speak two languages, eat poutine, and the police transportation would have four legs and whinnies. I'm just not sure where I can find a husky/wolf pup that hasn't already bonded with a family. <shrug> Well, that could wait until the Dog Sled Races in February, I suppose.
Don't quote me on it, but if the town is sold, the link may not work, right? Or if the item has been removed from auction?

Could be, I don't remember the details and can't seem to find the motivation to want to look it up.
I did looks at this town for sale, 4 housees and 5 small businesses with a bunch of bric-a-brac thrown in. Not much of a town but you have to start somewhere. :P
