I am looking to improve the search engine placement of our web site, and I came across this one calledWebPosition Gold, anyone hear of it? Anyways, are any of these effective? BTW, we also use overture and adwords, would a program do the same thing that these services are already doing or would it be worth the investment?

stay well clear of positioning software. Start running too many automated queiries and google will ban your ip. Only use is educational and for rank check now and then.
Stick with adwords and overture in the spending department.
Spend some time on optimising pages and getting decent backlinks, read through this forum, all the info is here on how to get a good position in the serps :)

Thanks for the input...We've been using Overture, Google AND looksmart...I was actually thinking about dropping overture and just keeping the other two. Overture seems to be the most expesive charging for everything...they even billed us for a change that was went against thier criteria.
As far as tweeking the code on the site, I have a guy working on all that for our revised version of the current site.
I am skeptical of positioning software myself, but I hear alot of ppl saying good things about it.

in the short term you 'could' see an improvement but it's nothing great and who wants to run the risk of getting their site barred from google!!!
Out of those adwords is the best :)
Make sure this guy knows what he's doing and hasn't sold you a story!!
i don't use any ppc or positioning software, only good old fashioned optimised pages and have over 10k uniques a day on several sites :D

Doesn't adwords only advertise on google?
He is just helping me out since I don't have time to do alot of the coding...but I am doing the researching to see what we need to do.

hehe, and it's partners ;)
adsense uses adwords - adwords displayed on peoples wesbites following the theme, like an affiliate link but again they get paid per click
lycos's 3/4 million websites now have adwords incorporated
your adwords ad will also find itself on:
America Online, Inc.
CompuServe
Netscape
AT&T Worldnet
EarthLink, Inc.
Sympatico Inc.
Ask Jeeves
and more…
HowStuffWorks
Blogger
Weather Underground
Knight-Ridder Digital
BURST! Media
and more…
can't beat that :D
