i admit i have never worked with flash before. i've been asked to look into what options are set on the client / server side when a viewer visit a page and don't have the macromedia plug in installed. does this require asp? or does macromedia offer a server side catch script to scan the viewers system for such options? if they are lacking the plugin i do not want to prompt them to download it, but wrather continue loading the site with motionless .gif images.
any suggestions?
thanks

OK. Heres the goods on Flash, and its plug in.
If your runnning IE4.+ ...Netscape 4.+ or Netscape6...you should have the plug in already. It is already a part of the browser. There is code to detect the flash plug in in a users browser, and download the plugin if needed.
You had mentioned running a picture instead of a flash movie if the user doesn't have the plug in. This too can be accomplished by flash. All of this is done on the client (browser) of the surfer. No ASP/ JSP or complicated server side programming is neccissary. If you want to get into the deatils of it, we can talk more about the exact steps to get it going.
