i had an idea i'd like to run past you all:

pretty much everyone has their own domain these days, and unlimited subdomains are par-for-the-course...

i propose we start a new protocol for link images [buttons, logo, and the like...]

set up a subdomain that points to your link image and call it "http://logo.yourdomain.com" or "http://button.yourdomain.com"

it would make life much easier when hot-linking images like that!

imagine if all you had to think about was logo.myisp.com, logo.myuniversity.com, logo.myfavoriteband.com

since most buttons are around the same size, we could post them at 150% of the intended size, and resize in browsers to allow for custom sizings...

i've posted a couple of examples for you to have a look at...

here's my redirect:
http://logo.saveproddies.net

and in an html page:
http://users.ncable.net.au/~paegn/logo.html

and in bulletinBoards:
http://logo.saveproddies.net

btw: i originally posted this with our logo, but decided to replace it, cos it's a cool original mascot, and i wanted to protect the artist's work.
i propose that we use a smaller size than this: the original was about 110 x 110 px

so... what do you think?

Interesting - but huh?

Besides, from what I gather round here, hot-linking is not a popular thing.

Still, if you get enough interest, it may eventually become accepted

I was thinking that it would be usefull for main logos that people use [yeah, hotlinks]

discouraging hotlinking means that people have to store the image on their own server.

so what happens if you decide to change your logo image?

this not only makes the process of linking easier, but also controling the image used to link to your site.

still, downloading a pic at 150% the size you need it means a waste of bandwidth. A big waste of bandwith.

Plus this makes you rely on a server that is outside your own. I can already see the broken image links, and slow download time.

I think that the idea to share logos is good, but perhaps by another method besides this.
