this isnt exactly a major issue but then agian i wouldnt know if it was. im very new to linux. i installed redhat 9.0 on my computer and kde as my desktop. what i did is i installed all the updates that were available. one of the updates was for the linux kernel. the computer works fine after the update but the problem is that when the computer boots up it shows kernel 2.4.20-18.9 and kernel 2.4.20-8 as the boot options. ive triend booting to both and everything is normal as far as i can notice but ive been just booting to the 2.4.20-8 but that looks to be the newer one. is this a problem? if it can be fix, how can it be? can i just take the options for the older kernel out of the boot loader? anyways any information or helpfull instructions anyone can provide would be great. thanx

well my understanding is that it is there just for saftey measures sense you just changed the kernel. I bet it is safe to delete it or just comment it out, just in case you need to uncomment it again if it crashes.

thanx scoutt,

that was basicly my understanding, it was there just in case the computer didnt start. How do i remove that from the boot loader? Like i said im new to linux, this is the first time i installed linux on a machine successfully after a couple of months of fustration. i wont get into why it didnt work before but if u ask me i'll tell u and u can have ur self a quick laugh at my Turmoil.

just some quick advice, when putting together a computer with used parts, allways test the parts using burn in or other hardware tests. When something looks to be working it probably isnt.

Hmmm, sounds like another variation of

"If you think this is simple, then you haven't fully understood the problem".

well it has been months since I have installed or played with linux, so I can't really tell you where the bootloader is.

try

etc/lilo.conf
