Dear GO Guides:

As most of you now know from our announcement this week, GO.com will cease operations at the end of February 2001.

As part of our transition to close, access by the GO Guides has been temporarily suspended - primarily because we do not have resources to change the directory. We hope this suspension is brief. GO is currently exploring the possibility of selling all or part of its assets, including the search and directory function. As a result, we do not yet know how the GO Guides community will be impacted. Please be assured, however, that we view the GO Guides to be one of the site's most valuable assets, and are hopeful this important community can continue under new ownership.

The management of GO is grateful for the many contributions of the GO Guides. Over the last 18 months, many of you have taken part in one of the most unique experiences and online phenomena ever existing on the Web.

Nowhere else has a portal allowed each and every one of its users toactively build and participate in creating the products and services they used on a regular basis. The end result was a community that rallied around setting standards, resolving conflicts and, most importantly, how to work together interactively to build a directory bigger than all of us.

The GO Guides team and GO Directory staff send their heartfelt thanks for your efforts.

We will keep you advised of developments as they occur related to the GO Guides' future. Thank you for your patience during this time.

GO Guides Administration

Doesn't seem to be any news on the buyer yet, this announcement would imply that they do not yet have one..I'll do some digging.

Nothing about the buyer, but its strange that a company with so many assets would sell such a propriety, and not try to restructure in some way:

Walt Disney Internet Group (NYSE: DIG) is the Internet media business of The Walt Disney Company. The company is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "DIG" and manages many of the Web's most popular sites and services. This includes a suite of family and kids sites, led by Disney.com, the number one Web site for kids and families, and Family.com, the premier family site; sports offerings, led by ESPN.com, the leading sports site, NFL.com and Soccernet; entertainment and news properties, including ABC.com, the leading broadcast network site, ABCNEWS.com, one of the leading news sites, and Mr.Showbiz, Movies.com and Wall of Sound; and GO.com, the guide to the Web for leisure and free time activities. Additionally, the Internet Group produces Enhanced TV telecasts in conjunction with selected ABC and ESPN programming.

Walt Disney Internet Group also has a significant online commerce business through its operation of DisneyStore.com, DisneyVacations.com and Disney Auctions. In addition, the Walt Disney Internet Group includes the catalog operations of The Walt Disney Company.

According to Media Metrix (December 2000), Walt Disney Internet Group's combined Web sites collectively represent the eighth largest Web property, attracting more than 20 million unique visitors representing 25% of the Web universe per month.
