i have a remote unix server, and i'm currently using NT on my pc. I am trying to install shout cast (same thing as winamp, but for streaming) and i need a program to view and edit the files after unziping. currently i'm using Aladin Explander for unziping files and it doesnt work with unix. i know i need something like gunzip, but when i install it on my pc with nt will i need a sub os to explode and explore everything in its correct form? when i use aladin it unzips the file , but the correct unzip should break into 3 seperate files, this unzips into 1 file, with all 3 compined. when viewing the 1 large file you can see the break points where the next file begins by the change in code (when viewed with cutehtml) if this makes no sence just reply with "huh?"
running on 4&1/2 hours sleep :o

first off... Huh?
Are you talking about Shoutcast Server? if so...
Use pkunzip for DOS, winzip or winrar to extract the files. i dont know why it would decompress the files as one. never had that problem before. You should be able to use anything to edit those files, notepad for windows, edit command in dos or if your logged in *nix, you can use whatever editor you have installed (vi, emacs.. etc)
the files are just text based files.
also, you said that the *nix box is the server, does that mean the NT box is over a network? Shoutcast will prob not work because of the internal ip assigned.. people won't be able to connect directly to the Shoutcast server.
Shoutcast will prob need to be installed on the server, which is a *nix OS, which shoutcast doesnt support. You may be able to find a *nix clone of shoutcast server
hope i helped.

opps.
shoutcast is supported by *nix
"Note: SHOUTcast Server is available for the following platforms: Windows 9x/NT/2000, FreeBSD, Linux, and Solaris."
the linux version should work. maybe i should read more carefully next time. heh.
(i still hope your talking about the Shoutcast server.. if not, damn i wasted alot of time typing)
since you have a *nix server.. try this..
untar the tarball..
i believe the linux command (which shouldn't be different since its tar)is
tar xfzv <filename>
that should do the gzip and tar job.\
now the shoutcast page says:
Use a text editor to configure the sc_serv.conf file (see below for details on configuring). It doesn't matter what user the server runs at, save that the user has read access to the config file, and write access for the files you define for file storage and log storage.
that is done depending on the editor you have installed on you *nix box. emacs, vi.. your running the OS, so you should know.
follow the rest of the directions on the page on configuring the config file.
good luck.
again..
