Web Secure Ordering

I'm just a small-time guy making average web sites for people.
Now some guy asked me if I can do secure web ordering for products.
Is there an easy way of going about this?
Do you have to create a whole system, or are there 'middleman' services to be found on the web?
I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, or if it's an incredibly naive post.
