Why would it matter wherre thier site is hosted as long is thier page is viewable. In my opinion price and performance would outwiegh location of a webhost.

thank you for your reply and although i agree with your comments these people are quite adament that they want an overseas host.
Hosting here in oz would be so much simplier.
Any recommendations or advice would be wonderful

You should ask for a clear explanation as to why they want an oversea hosting service. Might just be my suspicious mind but it sounds a little fishy to me. What type of a website will you be designing for this customer?

As far as uploading goes, it is the same regardless of the host country. You will use FTP.

I agree with Kevin on this so I won't give you any hosting company names, but this is one place where you can find them.

Go to http://www.webhostdir.com/

Then do a search under the A - Z list of hosts, then click on the basic search, then select International from the Hosting Category pull down box. This will list all of the international hosts that they have in their database.

Good luck, and be careful.

hmmm... that explanation doesn't seem to quite add up. Here in the USA we have what is called Freedom of Speech. You can say or do most anything as long as its not illegal. Slander, certain types of pornography, copyright/trademark infringement, goverment classifed material, solicitation of certain criminal activities, threats against the Pres. of the USA, and so forth. Thats not to say you won't get in trouble, look at a jerk like Larry Flint, but in the end he won his case.

I understand the excitement of getting your first customer, but this seems a little strange to me. Since I don't know anything in regards to specifics, I simply urge that you proceed with some caution and your eyes wide open.

Regards,
Kevin

I think he is talking about Australia, he doesn't want a host in Australia, USA would be ok, or anywhere but there. I'm pretty sure oz is a region or province there.

Us Americans always assume everyone is speaking about the USA. I know there is a whole other world out there I just forget about it most of the time.

BTW.....how do you know he is a he and not a she? ;)

Waving the flag.....

I'll have to agree. When I post to a server, I really don't care where it is, as long as my download times, and server downtimes are kept to a minimum. Honestly...I never bothered to check where my servers are. If someone were to ask me for a host in a specific country, I would be sceptical too. Just let them sort out the server issue, and you make the web site!

Is the goverment that heavy-handed in Australia? Anyway....I'll say it again in case you missed it. It does not matter where a website is hosted, next door or on the other side of the world, you still access the website the same way, using FTP software, or you could even use the FTP support built into Windows, although an FTP program is much easier to use.

Unless your new website is going to be really big with lots of traffic and selling stuff, don't pay more than $20.00(US) per month for hosting. You can get hosting for small websites for as little as $5.00 to $7.00 per month if that will be all you need. You can even get free hosting, no banners or advertisments, check in the FREE and COMMERCIAL SERVICES forum for recommendations.

Regards,
Kevin

For all your help,
Thank you, to all of you for your help and advice,
it has all been carefully considered and and heeded.
I consider this as having mentors online without feeling that I am bothering anyone with trival Q's, and receiving answers that are valid and make sense and even make me aware of things that I had overlooked (newbie :-))
I have told my 2 friends (I do have more than 2) about this site and they are going to sign up,we wish we had have found this site 12 months ago.
Anyway a big thank-you from "OZ" and I shall let you all know how we go.
