Payments via e-mail ?

A friend wants an online shopping facility on his website and has access to a secure server with "EasySpace". He has got one of those machines, one finds in shops, where the assistant swipes the card when a payment is made for goods.

He would like to be able to take a customer's credit card details from his website and manually enter the information into this machine. How does he get the information from the secure server either via e-mail or FTP securely ?

I would suggest not taking on the liability of manging client credit card numbers personally, and use a merchant system with online billing cababilities such as http://www.authorize.net
