Changed my mind!! Not ready yet!! LOL!

[This message has been edited by mescorp (edited 08-26-2000).]

Ok, I think I'm about as ready as I'm going to get. I've recently added web design as a service to my business. Please keep in mind that my target clients are new and small businesses until I learn more advanced programming like java and dhtml! For now I wanted to keep my site simple and to the point until I advance more. Your honest, and I mean to the core honest, opinions really matter to me, so please review the site and my code and make any comments or suggestions as soon as possible! Thanx everyone!

First I want to say this is just my opinion and not to take it the wrong way.

The site is a pretty average site. But I do not think that the page gives the right impression. Your goal is to convince your potential clientel that you offer the best service possible, so you need to portray that in your site design. You want the surfer to be wowed by your opening page showing them that you are the best. Your page doesnt have a professional feel.

Here are some tips.

1. Dont use such big graphic images. They may seem cool and flashy but dont look very professional.

2. Offer a portfolio page of your best work. If you have nothing to show its hard to impress a customer.

3. Too much bold text is not a good thing.

4.Instead of centering paragraphs , indent the first word and let them align to the left.

Also before you advertise that you offer Web Design services. It might be a good idea to master HTML or to hire someone that knows it very well. It will save you a lot of time and painful backtracking in the long run.

One of the main reasons so many web and design companies dont last is because of inexperience. Instead of jumping in right away take time to master your craft. I'm not out to discourage you, I just know from experience that it will take alot of hard work and long hours of research to get on top of this very competitive market.

Hope this will get you on the track to making a good living.

Doni,

Thank you so much for your input. As hard as it may be to hear, that's exactly what I needed to know. Maybe I will take web design down for now until I've gotten more of a feel for it. I have been planning on taking a few classes in html and java and now I know it would be well worth the money. The "Scorp" likes honesty, no matter how much I may not like it....especially with a business! Your reply was very helpful! Thanx!

My honest opinion is:

1) Fabulous background colour! (Shame there's not more of it)

2) Don't personally like the use of the cloud background..... have you tried using other colours instead? Grey, light blue

3) Your a consulting company.... why the flapping unicorn? Ok, your logo may include one, but it doesn't flap. The flapping unicorn adds an essence of tackiness to the overall page which it doesn't need.

4) The overall layout is fine.... simple to understand, etc.

5) The email animation is another tackiness factor. Style doesn't have to mean movement.

Hope these few factors help,

jon

Maybe slow down the graphics animation loop so it doesn't recycle so quickly. The pegasus and email logos are cute, but too fast for the page.
Organize your side links by service, like all the printing related in one topic area, consulting in another, etc.
Convert the email text to linkable text, or change it to something like CLICK TO EMAIL, rather than the address itself.
My initial reaction is good..
