http://www.the-verybest.com
Well, here's the addy.
I just finished my new opening page.
This site is G rated, and is very graphics, and java intensive, but if you got a good machine, and a pretty fast connection...well we'll see what you all say about it.
Sorry, there is no netscape version of this site.
Thank you for your time.

Hi Larry,
I looked at your website. I am going to assume this is your first website. These are my opinions........
The homepage graphic is cool, and the image mapping of the links is well done. But It sure wastes a lot of space and at over 50k is rather large in file size (regardless of your graphic intensive disclaimer). I would remove it from the homepage and try and incorporate it into another part of your website. You have so many disclaimers on the home page I don't know if you are going to scare away visitors or intrigue them!!
I like the name "the-verybest.com". Concentrate on adding content that will be relavent to that concept.
I read your disclaimers about needing a fast internet connection and etc, which in my opinion is a tremendous (possibly fatal) error in design judgement, especially when the website is on a free server and the content does not justify it. I did not look at the pages that required the haptek plugin and seriously doubt that all but a very few visitors will. (I have a feeling all those disclaimers are just an excuse for poor design concepts or lack of experience. Like when there is a bug in a program but the programmer insists its a design element...yea right).
Larry, if your serious about the website, you need to re-evaluate your current design.
(high-bandwidth, no Netscape support, plugins to view certain pages, etc). If the wesite is a learning tool, then let your imagination run wild and use what you learn later on.

Thank you for your comments. This is my first real website, but there are some things that I am learning about web design. First, and most important, in my eyes at least, is just how dull a lot of websites really are. Everyone is so very concerned about the size, of course, and browser compatibility. Well, ever so slowly, things are starting to get better. New computers are way faster. Mine's a 450. 128ram. I can do well, on a slow hookup. I do tend to forget that, but I also realize that more, and more folks are upgrading, and getting faster hookups, bigger 'puters, etc. Some of the old thinking will have to stop, if you want to hold someones attention, for any amount of time. Those that are useing flash, have got the right idea. I'm still learning, and am self taught. Haven't learned flash, yet, but when I do...;o) Anyway, and as far as the browsers, things are getting a little better, and have a ways to go, yet. This is going to be more of an issue, soon. I don't see how it can be otherwise. A person doesn't worry about the TV he gets, as to worry about how that set will interpret the movie that is being watched. All you worry about, is the size and quality of the picture, and the sound. That's just monitor, and speaker, kids. It's not taking, or adding any special FX to a good Scifi. It's just whether you have to squint, or not when you watch it. LOL The point is, is that when you try to make a site for any browser, you lose something. So you try to make a version for each browser out there. Aside from the extra work, you lose some stuff there, too. It would be like having a couple diferent versions of a Star Wars movie, with different special FX from one to the other. Now I do lack experience, but I think that I am learning to have a good eye for design. I like the look I have created. I want to show it off. I've had some visits, and some have pointed these issues out to me..., so that is why I have the disclaimers. If someone comes to my site with a shakey 'puter, browsers, or what ever, I would hate to lock 'em up. If they come with an older 'puter, they wont have the ram, or a newer browser, or what ever. So I try to give a way to see parts of the site, if noet all. Some folks just didn't want to download, and install the viewer, but still wanted to see the rest of the site. I believe that, soon, The conections, and the browsers, and all will be so good, there won't be any need for any of this concern. Just build a site, with all the artistic value intact regardless of what, in our eyes, the browser the site was made for. All of these browser are starting to learn how to read each others sites, so soon.... The point is more folks will come to see this, as they become more aquainted with the internet as a place for work, school, and entertainment. More color, more "eye candy" as it were. Movies,...interactive movies.................................................................................You know, as I was writing this, I have realized that you are right about one thing, for sure. Tho I think that some mention of the stuff in my disclaimers should be made, I did go a bit over board. The people I do want comming to my site will have a good fast machine, a good browser, a fast internet connection, and not at all worried about these things. I'll go over that first page, and try to fix that. As to the size of some of the pics, and some of the java, that's the point. There are getting to be more, and more folks with just those computers, and, again, there is no worry. I'm going to be there, when they come out here. :o) The-verybest.com Is about the very best 3D artists, the best tutorials, the best internet FX.....Maybe the best "look". bragbragbragbrag..lol This site is a learning tool, but I hope it to be more, too. Anyway, thanks again, and stop by anytime. Tell a friend.
Regards,
eggs

Larry,
After reading your post, I see you have almost no idea what you are talking about.
But it's your website, do with it as you see fit.
