Contest Number Two: Bust-Da-Bank Inc.

Who can come up with the most innovative way to promote this new credit card for the 2002 holiday season? Read over our requirements, and post your completed layouts in this thread (as attachments or linked gifs/ jpgs). Good luck!!!

Contest Number Two: Bust-Da-Bank Inc., and the all new Dread-It credit card.

Start Date: Monday December 2nd Contest begins.
End Date: Sunday December 15th Last submissions are taken.
Moderator finalist pool: December 15th-20th.
Poll Dates: December 20-25th. Winners to be announced shortly afterwards.

*** the moderator finalist pool will just have the mods determine the finalists that have met the criteria, and are up for the prize of 1 free domain name.

Request: post a one page layout that effectively sells the Dread-It credit card idea. You are free to create logos for Bust-Da-Bank Inc., the Dread-it credit card, and any icons you see fit. Your one page layout may be of the home page, or any of the sub pages that you'd like to demonstrate.

Background: Bust-Da-Bank Inc. is a lending company based out of wachachoobee Florida. They have been successfully lending money to over 12 customers for a period of no less than 2 months. They would seriously like to break into the market this holiday season, and need your help to promote their new Dread-It credit card. Low, low 59% intrest rates, a nominal (re-occurring quarterly) $59.95 cardholders fee, $159.95 over the limit fees (which are dirt cheap!), and unlimited balance transfers (with a $.59 charge for every dollar transferred). In addition to all these great deals, you must promote Bust-Da-Bank Inc. as a reputable lender, and try to hide the fact that we do in fact intend on selling your name, address, email address, phone number, and any identifying information to anyone with a pop tart, a waffle iron, and a questionable checkbook.

Site Purpose: uhm... we are marketing... all we do is provide you with the facts. YOU make it sell to the customers. Make them beg to apply for our card. Make them LOVE us. Make them trust us! Make us look like we wouldn't reposess their car to get back $50 in overdue fees. This website should make Bust-Da-Bank Inc. into a household name!!!

What we'd love to see: Exciting, explosive, vibrant site that conveys trust in our new credit card. A site that shows how much you could buy with our new Dread-It credit card! Tell 'em that everybody is instantly approved and that they will get a $5000 credit limit. (hide in fine print somewhere that we charge $59.95 for each application, and another $59.95 to approve the application. $59.95 charge for denial also applies. Oh, and $59.95 of the initial issue card. *$59.95 for each replacement, and we automatically send five replacements upon account activation.... but try to hide that as well!)

What we'd like to avoid: Anything that makes them not trust us. Anything boring that doesn't distract them from the high intrest rates, or numerous fees.

We look forward to your sample work!

Sheesh! And I suppose you expect us to keep a straight face while we're doing this, too, huh? <huge sigh>

Well, I'll try.

Great contest Doc, I'm sure that this will become even more successful than the first one. To kick thing off, I'd like to chime in my own honorary contribution:

Note: I will be adding a prize of 50,000 banner impressions to be displayed on HTMLforums to the winner of this contest. Happy designing.

As on the last contest I will give away 1 domain. Also I am working out a deal for more servers for my hosting business. If we get it I will include 1 year free hosting for the domain and a seperate hosting account for the person that gets 2nd place. Again, I am about 90% sure that this deal will go through, if it doesn't I will still offer the domain.
BTW: Looks for my submission this weekend.
Thanks and good luck,
Paul

some questions:
1) does it HAVE to be a screenshot, or can i link to the actual page on the web?

2) by "one page," does that mean no pop-ups?

and a boast:
i'm gonna have half of you people rolling on the floor, and the other half sending me death threats! and i'm not turning it in until the last minute, either!

i definitely won't win (not with what i'm doing!), so don't worry-- i just don't want anyone else doing anything similar after seeing how i've "adbusted" mine. hee hee haw snort!

TM,

we'd like to have all entries in 800x600 jpg or gif formats. That way you can do the whole thing in a photo editor without coding. However, if you really want to design a whole page... pop ups and all, your welcome to... I can't wait to see it!

*only 800x600 jpg/ gif entries are valid for winning prizes

p.s., i know it's not in the right format (800*600 GIF/JPEG), but i didn't do it for the nifty prize anyway :D

Cmon folks, don't let TM steal the show with that outrageous example! (its gonna be hard to top that one!)

Hey Adam,

I think that it would be best for the contest if everyone submitted a completely original entry based only on the criteria provided by Dr Web.

good job illusionz. Remember, you don't have to code a HTML page... you can just whip up the whole thing in a photo editor (if thats easier for you).

Lets keep 'em coming!

Nice touch Peg, "a Bin Laden holding company" LOL!!

Pegasus
12-06-2002, 09:13 PM
Well, my original reference was going to be to the "Bay of Pigs", but I wasn't sure too many people would understand it. *wg* It's the same idea, though.

FWIW, Bin Laden's daddy had a major construction company. For those who are afficianados of Formula 1 car racing, the Williams FW07 of the 1980's carried the sponsorship words "Baroon Bin Laden". This was the building company owned by Bin Laden's father where he inherited his fortune from. It was the early days for Williams GP Engineering and nearly all their sponsors came from the Middle East (apart from British Leyland!)

How's that for useless trivia?

Neil

Isnt Bin Ladens daddy a rich Saudi?

Some of these posts are really good!

Howz' come we are being asked to submit a jpeg?

I couldn't determine if this jpeg thing was an option or mandatory fer' the entry ???

Anyone?

illusionaz
12-07-2002, 12:45 PM
Yea, I'd prefer to use a regular html page so you can check out things like my css rollovers, if people have image rollovers, etc... Just my opinion .

Dr. Web

to be eligible for winning prizes, entries must be submitted in gif/ jpg format, 800x600.

The reason was simple.... we wanted to have graphic entries... you know, let people create the whole thing in photoshop/ paint shop pro/ fireworks/ whateverPHOTOeditor.

It is purely an excercise in graphics skills. If you would like to enter with a full HTML coded page, thats fine, as long as it is accompanied by a screenshot (800x600, jpg/ gif).

illusionaz
12-07-2002, 02:39 PM
So I should enter with something like this? Make sure you view it with ACDsee or a photo editor, IE garbles it unless you click the little button on the bottom right to magnify it to 100%.

Dr. Web
12-07-2002, 04:17 PM
illusionz,

jpg/ gif s come out just fine in IE. If you have automatic image resizing on in IE 6 (tools, internet options, advanced) then it will resize it smaller. If you have that box unchecked, there will be no problem viewing.

Remember, jpg and gif images are meant to be seen on the web, not via a photo editior.

A new take on an old theme... http://www.motifwebs.com/dreadit_neil.jpg

(Had to use two images for which the copyright is not mine to use, but it's hard to find free images of people. Oh well I 99% sure parody is allowed under copyright laws. :) )

I'm too stupid to give up and too stubborn to roll over and die.... Or is that too stubborn to give up....? <sigh> I'll get it straight eventually. ;)

Actually, I'm beginning to think that quite a few of these designs would work quite well. It would all depend on what area of the market you're looking at - the Babyboomers, GenX or Generation Next. Very impressive, everyone.
