for one reason it is AOL, dump it as it is the devil. :P
so, you can't exactly edit the dll so installing is the only choice. msvcrt.dll is part of the language that AOL was made with. a lot of programs use it so if AOL is the only one erroring on it then you need to install AOL, god help you ;)

My OS is Windows ME and the error message is "AOL has caused an error in MSVCRT.DLL and will be shut down"
I have tried installing AOL again with a new copy of the disc but the problem continues.

The problem is AOL.
The solution is get rid of it.
Actually, in this case it might be an MS problem - try doing a search in the MS knowledge database. <cooking show host>In fact, here is one (http://search.support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?Catalog=LCID%3D1033%26CDID%3DEN-US-KB%26PRODLISTSRC%3DON&withinResults=&QuerySource=gsfxAdvancedSearch_Query&Product=winme&Queryc=AOL+7+MSVCRT.DLL&Query=AOL+7+MSVCRT.DLL&KeywordType=ALL&maxResults=25&Titles=false&numDays=) I prepared earlier. </cooking show host>
If the answer can't be got out of MS, then I'd go annoy the bejezeez out of AOHELL's (un)tech support.

I guess there is a problem with your MSVCRT DLL file.
Ok now,.Go and get a copy of WINDOWS XP :D
Try re-installing the MSVCRT DLL file, you can find it here http://www.rocketdownload.com/supfiles.htm
It may be because you have the incorrect or an out dated version of the file.
Here is what I suggest first.
Go into c:\windows\system and copy the file and paste it in a tempory directory (back it up). Delete your current msvcrt.dll file from windows\system and replace it with the one I have attached. (make sure you have downloaded this file first).
Then reboot your system and try loading AOL and see if it works. If it still gives the error, the problem is not with your msvcrt.dll file but an AOL problem.
