--> MASS MAILING OF TROJAN HORSE SPOTTED!
Hackers have released a mass mailing of a program called Maz,
which may be an attempt to amass an army of zombie computers,
Maz.A comes with the message: "Hello! Check out the best FREE site!"
It includes an attachment, masteraz.exe. Maz.B has the subject line
"Improve your Credit." The message says, "Hello! Check out this
site, it is a great site." The Maz.B attachment is jimkre.exe.

Open the attachment and you get a backdoor program. This
program registers with an Internet site, and downloads more
software. If you receive the e-mail, do not open it. If you do open
it, a firewall program may block it from contacting the Web.
Also, keep your anti-virus software up to date.

Big thanks for the heads up. Personally, I would never open an attatchment from someone I dont know, especially if they had the attatchment as an .exe file

Thanks for the heads up though kwjams!

<sigh> Gees, I have goofed, haven't I? I've got my email filter set to toss out anything that reads "Free" or "Credit" (among other things) in the subject line. But I'll pass this on to a few others I know that don't.

Thanks.

Peg

Keep your anti-virus software up to date. :)
The first thing I do after logging on is to check Live Updates at Norton before even opening up IE or Outlook.

One trick I learned is when I get an attachment is to highlight it--right click the start button and then I can scan just that attachment.

Used to save stuff friends would send to a floppy and then scan it.
What a waste of time. :(
