I am a total novice who is attempting to set up a web site with some pages that are password protected.

I am probably going about this all wrong, but I have signed up for a redirect shortened url so that the real URL address of the page does not show up in the browser window (at the top). I than signed up for a drop down menu for additional pages that follow the password protected pages - but the addresses of those pages showed up at the bottom of the window in the status bar. I found a java script that fixes this problem by showing the words "members only" in the status box instead of the web address.

So I thought in my crude way I had accomplished what I was trying to do until I printed out the main "protected" page and found the real URL address of the page included on the page that I had just printed out.

Help, what can I do? Most password protection programs that I have tried (been able to figure out) only protect one page and after that the balance of the pages are not protected.

How can I hide the addresses of the pages that are supposed to be "protected"?

Hi Madsen,

Yup, that's the wrong way http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif

If you have some knowledge in perl, try our perl directory in that category: http://www.123webmaster.com/Scripts/Perl/Development/Password_Protection/

If not, try the remotely hosted scripts listed here: http://www.123webmaster.com/Scripts/Remotely_Hosted/Development/Password_Protection/

Jason thanks a million. I opted for the easiest way and grabbed a "hosted" password protection program from the list you recommended.

I think I have it working correctly, except that I still have the problem that when I print out a "protected" page the real URL shows up on the print out. Any way of getting rid of that?

Madsen,

That shouldn't be a problem. Even if they know the URL, they can nnot access it without a username and password. That's the beauty of protection http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif
