Hi there. Someone know if there is any place on the net that can provide a domain name (www.myname.com) and web hosting (a lot of space) for free? Even if there are banners or something. Someone told me that at http://www.worldonline.com they do this stuff but you have to stay on their site at least 20 mins a day (I looked around the site but didn't find it...) If someone knows a site that does this for free (or with banners) please tell me!

Well O_o!,

There are quite a few good web hosts on the net, but even if they provide free domain hosting, still have to pay a $70 fee to Internic. This goes for all domains no matter what host you use. Hope you find what your looking for! http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif

Actually Isaac,

I wish i remember where I saw this now, but I saw a site with a big bottom frame that was given a free domain to use the frame, much like a redirect service. There was a banner ad, and an ad for the "provider" of the domain. Seems to be a new trend. It's just a one time fee for the domain provider, and he gets advertising for life on the frame.

Checkout: http://www.namezero.com/default.htm

You get a free domain name, however they will own it. Thus you must stay on there servers, and they call the shots. Looks like they only allow you to create a "portal" like site.

I don't think it means that they will touch your stuff, but if you leave their server, you leave the name with them.

The full scoop on NameZero:

They will provide you with a:
1. Free Domain name
2. Hosting space

You must:
1. Host the homepage of your site
on their server...they put a banner at the top.
2. Agree to their terms of use that state that the domain is owned by them and not you/your company.

Notes:
They say they will notify you by e-mail when your account is ready. I signed up as a test, and still two days latter, still nothing.

They seem to offer a good service, and if htey come through with this account I would suggest them as a possiable soultion to your problem.

Looks like that one's down to me alright Isaac http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif Thanks for doing the digging around because I haven't got a clue about all this domain name stuff - I can never work out what's free and what isn't!

Seeing as I know so little about the area, I better check about where to list namezero. There is no free domain names section, there are only free webspace (commercial/personal/games/misc) and free domain parking.

I know domain parking differs in that you have got your own domain first (paid at least that registration fee thing) so that if you want to not park it at a certain place anymore you can leave taking your domain name with you.
But namezero don't just offer free webspace either but is that the right place to put them??

I'd make 2 listings in this case --
Shorter URLs
Free Web Space

Ina way, it is a url redirect, only you can't hok it up to your existing site (just make note of it).

O_o

If you get a website on geocities, then your url will be geocities.com/you. When you leave geocities, you do not take that yrl with you. This place offers the same thing, execpt you get a domain name, you.com. The domain is their properity, but I'm sure they do not modify, or alter your site.

ok update alert everyone!

i find reading about namezero completely confusing because i don't understand all this domain stuff and the names they use for things etc etc

BUT on reading their faq:
**namezero host domain name and mail accounts but do not currently host webspace**

you must host the domain on namezero servers but you must have a website already to forward the domain to because namezero don't host web space. if you don't have a website when you join, they suggest signing up at a free one like geocities, tripod etc.

so it seems to be just a redirecting service really??

Good Research Jalouda. It sure seems that way. So a redirect service it is. I wonder if they are still accepting sites.

Isaac, did you ever hear back from them after you signed up?

I never did get a reply. In fact I re-applyed because I thought there might have been a server error or something. Then after 3 more days I e-mailed them...still no answer on either counts. http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/frown.gif

We'll just have to wait and see.

I cant find free domain names but...

For free mydomain.cjb.net go to cjb.net

For providing free @yourdomain e-mail check out everyone.net (only for top level domains)

For providing free e-mail (without having a top level domain) go to zzn.com

Thanks for the good review.

In order to obtain a domain through Namezero.com, you must register for an account with them at www.namezero.com. (http://www.namezero.com.)

The setup is not very good, but as I mentioned in another post, I'm researching the ablity to transfer the domain to another server.

Have u try redirection.net?? U could just got a domain to your self and dont use it... like you park it somewhere for free and only redirect it to a free webhosting with no ads and a long address... doesnt it work??

Jason

Jrvs,

I believe that the point of namezero and namedemo is that they are free, for people that do not have the money, or just do not want to pay for a domain name.

Hi!

I have used namezero.com for some time, and they do work fine! They host your dotcom, put you have your website elsewhere. They put a add at the bottom of the page, and will OWN the dotcom, this means if you want to stop using namezero, you have to pay the standard $70. Thats it!

If you want to check out what it looks like, check out www.blimpworld.com (http://www.blimpworld.com)

I dislike namezero.com, i'm going to pay like $20.00 a year for my domain and i'm going to get hosting for $20.00 a month. dont tell me that aint worth it. the domain price is alot more better then paying $70.00 a year, and after you renew the domain name i think you get too keep it for life. i'm not sure, but i will have to check into that soon enough. namezero.com is just a damn joke, i think they suck all the way. you disagree with me that is okay cause it aint my damn problem. try lookin for cheap domains, and you will find what u are looking for. trust me i did, and i'm proud that i looked for cheap domains, well i gotta jet before i get grounded for being online intil 5.00am in the morning.

Yes, NameZero (http://www.namezero.com) will work. I'm registered under them.

If you want free web space, go to Stas.Net (http://www.stas.net): No Banners. Unlimited space, starting from 1GB, but you can ask for more if you require it.
