Their products send back cookies to Real with out telling you, it databases your listening choices, memorizes your habits...

I'm sure they'd say that it's for marketing purposes if you asked, but they should still give the user an option to "turn it off". Although I'm sure if you asked for this they would say that it would "bias the results". Oh well, can't win them all. However if you don't like Real Media's information collecting methods, there are plenty of alternative players out. I don't know any data collection facts about these others though.

Actually they disclose this under "sending info for possible probelms with Real Player" and Yes you can turn it off.. thats the part thats collecting info off your system.. Just a note.. You dont have to have anything to have a site collect info. I have a fire wall and after visiting a site and deciding their products cost too much, have been receiveing price lists from them. Ive never once contacted them for them to do this.

If you know a way to shut down Real's stuff then let us know!
As for the site sending you info, that is a major security breach. I think that may be illegal in some states. Please let us know the details.

Winamp does the same, but it asks you if you want to participate during installation.
