Internet privacy has become a hot topic for web developers and surfers alike.

I’m not sure if this is revelent to this post but I think it is important in terms of internet security. A few months ago, a friend of mine which is really interested in hacking… can across a tutorial on how to hack into any FrontPage generated website. My first thought was… Yeah Right!!… so I installed the FrontPage extensions on my server and let him give it a try…

5 minutes later, OH… look at that my friends’ signature is on my homepage! Humm… that really got me think’in and from then on I will never use FrontPage again… actually that’s a bit shady. I should rather say I would never again use FrontPage Extensions again. There isn’t anything wrong with creating your web pages in FP as long as you upload them separately.

Now this could be a real risk if you run an e-commerce site where security is a must. All your information is vulnerable to attack.

TO ANYONE WHO IS GOING TO CONTACT ME HOW TO DO THIS PLEASE DON’T EVEN BOTHER E-MAILING ME. I WILL NOT REVEAL HOW TO DO IT AS I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE PRACTISE.

Final thought…. Another great product by Microsoft… I can tell security is a must =)

Hi Pulsar,

You're right, this might not have a lot to do with Internet Privacy, but it does bring up a lot of questions about Internet Security.

A friend of mine works at Register.com, and all too much of their day is spent tracknig down hackers, and hacker prevention.

People that choose their time hacking usually aren't "breaking new ground", or "teaching the system a lesson". I could easily throw a brick through the window of a department store, and get away with it. If I choose to, I could go on a streak of window smashing, until all the stores on that block were forced to put bars 2 feet in front of the window to make it less accessble.

What for? I gained nothing, and all it did was cost money for damage repairs, for further damage prevention. Unfortunatley a lot of Hollywood films have glorified hacking, and it has taken a heavy price for business that are already struggling in the .com world.

Barrons recently released a list of 100 Internet companies that are not yet profitable, and will run out of money in the next few years (or months). These companies ranged from -3 months of remaining cash (already broke) to 70 months of remain cash.

How many of the businesses that were announced by Barrons which are soon to run out of money would be closer to pulling a profit if it wasn't for a huge security expense? It is a wide misconception that these sites are bottomless barrells of money, and can not be seriously hurt; that hacking just helps increase their modesty. In reality, it is a crime that usually contains many victims, and usually does not even benefit the culprit.

Well Jason, you are right about hacking. It wastes time and a lot of money, not to metion that it can at times do serious damage.

I have a friend that works for Yahoo!, who told me that when thay were getting all of the denial of service atacks, they lost close to 3 million dollers in buisness. (Puts things into perspective)

As for Front Page, this just helps prove my point about MS...
