hey people
My friend Han Hu (his name) and I have an argument over this issue. He thinks that he is a good web site designer & builder by telling me that he has many web sites and he doesn't use FrontPage to build his web sites!
Until I visit his web site, I found that whatever he etold me about his web design ability is TOTALLY LYING! here I will post 2 of his web sites and please review it for HIM (not for me). He is so arrogant, because his sites have not been challenged and reviewed by all of you webmasters in HTMLForum.com, so please review his site, thanks in advance

maybe hw will be more humble after you elites review his web sites and critize it!

oh, also please review my web site's new layout, it's temporary here

Well, in the second one, I found two body tags. Can't be right, right?

Says enough I guess.

And the second one took over a minute to be fully loaded, and I'm on a dsl line. That's because of one no-no to my opinion: background music (especially on a static site).

Unfortunately our proxies would not allow us past any of them, but before we get all worked up on cutting down the pages

lets take a look at what makes a good website (imho :o )

- contents, contents, contents ..
- intuatively easy navigation around the site,
- a web layout which matches the intention (e.g. cow girls belong with cow boys .. right Ian ??)
- fast loading
- easy to update later
- oh, yes.. contents..

you may also add: user choice. e.g. let the user decide if they want to read scrolling text, if they want music, if they want pop-ups (e.g. make links to such things instead of automatic display).

Honestly.. (while I hate it as a programmer) I really don't care if there is 1000 body tags, if the table cells are not closed, if you use non-standards or if you have used javascript as a work around for good coding.. that is all your own decision... If the page has good contents, the looks matches the purpose, easy to navigate and you can keep up with the update then FINE.. problem solved...

However, if you are handing something over to a client which thy are supposed to be able to keep updated, then your coding (and good coding) also becomes your responsibility.

Regarding the fateback site:
- slow loading (but understand faster than it used to be)
- marquee (*cringe *)
- a bit empty for a home page (but assume it is in development right now ?)

otherwise:
- nice layout (excellent table effect)
- good navigation (if you know what the numbers represents)
- nice graphics (here layout matches contents.. very good)

can you change the yellow icons running down the page on both sides to another color which is easier to see (yellow on white is difficult).

Otherwise very nicely done.

KD, you pretty much summed things up, nice going.

Michael, I wouldn't worry to much about what your friend says. Both of those sites are very poor, and in all my years of looking at sites, I don't think I have ever viewed one that took so long to load.

As for your site, personally, I think you should code to suit the majority of users, this means your site should be viewable in 800x600 without side scrolling. 1024x768 are still only around 30%-35% of users (you should be able to make your layout exandable as it is quite a simple layout). Your scrolling counter has to go sorry, it sux and I agree with Kd on the rest.
Not to bad over all :)

Boa*

* On high resolution, I can see the background repeat. Never repeat an unrepeatable background. Only repeat pattern images in the background.
* The music takes like 2 minutes to load on cable... It's not a good idea to put unstoppable music on a site anyways.
* How the dude split his sections into 3 collumns doesn't organise the site well.
* I hate how the site pops up a new window on each link I click. Horrible!

MCU: Multi-Culture Union

* Page takes hours to load on cable. The background image is too big
* Red text is hard to read on a red background.
* why did this dude smash the main site into a small collumn, while reserving a big collumn for his name and college?????????? crazy.
* I hate the music that loads up on this site.
* Crosshair over links is so stupid
* Animated gifs on the top are a distraction and are not neccessary.
