Promotion - email, ezine ads

I need some practical advice on using email or placing ads in ezines to promote my website business.

There are a lot of scam services and I want to avoid them.
If anyone has experience with a reputable-quality service; please let me know.


Email: I've seen a few services so far: PostMaster Direct is a well known service. I checked their prices and they seem extremely expensive (about $1 per email - so to send out 1000 emails would cost me $1000) I can't afford that.

Are there any legitimate email services that offer decent-economical rates?

Ezines:
How does advertising in ezines work? Are they really profitable? Do they give good results? Is it super-expensive? How do I find a list of ezines on the internet?

Search for

"ezine directory" marketing

in google and you'll find loads. Subscribe to ones that look interesting and email individual editors with links to articles you have written asking politely for inclusion. Once you have found some successful ones, you could try advertising with them provided you like the rates. Good luck.
