i have been trying for the longest time
how to make an image map a background instead of just an image. how do i do this? any help would be MUCH appreciated!

If it can be done, I'm guessing you would need to use JAVA. No way to do it using conventional HTML code that I know of.

Can't be done. Would you could do though..is take a transparent gif and make it the size of whatever you want in the background..and make it a image map. That would achieve the same effect maybe. I don't understand though..why you would want to have an image map on the background. What's wrong with just using a regular image.

I really agree with you. I was thinking maybe with DHTML and layers you could pull it off, but I doubt it (and don't know why someone would want to anyway). It's just that I hesitate to state something so definitivly (call me chicken) as "can't be done". Seems whenever I make such a bold statement, I end up eating crow.... :)
