I want to make a contract that clients sign before I code a website for them.

1.) How do you make it official? Or can any regular text just be considered official?
2.) What are the main parts of a contract that I need to know of?
3.) How do I make "proof" that a client actually signed a contract?

Hi,

Do you have a terms of service? You can adapt those terms for your contract. I make it official by using the templates in Word and putting it on my letterhead. :) Make sure that the client reads your terms before they get the contract via email.

The main parts are the simplest things. Like the rate you charge, what you don't do and what they should expect...etc.
Have you ever visited www.cyber-crew.com ? They have great resources for copyright and tos agreements.

I have typed one out and I send it via email. The contract is signed by the client and faxed back to me so I can start the same day. If they don't want to fax it, have them mail it. Make sure you tell them that until it's received no work will be done on the site. Be firm about that, as they will tell you "it's in the mail".
