a potential customer has a .BIZ domain that she wants me to convert to a site. Now I remember reading that you have to have a registered business to host a site under the .biz domain . . is this athe case as my client has not registered a business . . any links / advice appreciated!!

Hi,

The .biz extension does not need to be owned by a registered business. It is just a marketing creation to sell more domains since the .coms have mostly run out.

Thx Jase . .
fyi I also read that if you say for example own redapplez.biz but don't own a registered business in that name, and the owner of red applez ltd [a registered business with the exact name as on the .biz site] wants it, if it goes to court, the owner with the registered company will win, so I believe . . .

cheers again Mr J

so don't pick a domain name with the same name as a registered business. If they register after you open the domain, you could probably ask for money from them (this is not a legal opinion).

But if you start a site that isn't squatting on that name, then you are using it legitimately. You don't need an existing "business" to use it, as long as you are using it and not domain squatting.
